In the south of Ethiopia, east of Lake Abaya and the adjacent Nechisar National Park, lies the cultivation area from which we obtain this wonderful coffee. The term "Heirloom" encompasses a variety of indigenous varieties that have arisen in the wild through cross-pollination and therefore cannot be precisely identified or determined. This natural and wild component is also reflected in the cup: The WORKA has the typical Ethiopian notes of blueberries and yellow stone fruit, with an intensity and liveliness that is unparalleled. Sun drying not only provides a lot of sweetness but also gives the coffee a creamy texture. The taste experience is rounded off in the finish with delicate, clear notes of chocolate.

The Worka cooperative, from which the name is derived, consists of about 1200 smallholder farmers and is managed by the Yirgacheffe Union in the capital Addis Ababa. It operates in the Gedeb district in the south of the Gedeo Zone and is part of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives Union, which encompasses a total of 28 cooperatives in the region. The members primarily cultivate the varieties Kudhme, Welisho, and Dego. In many of the smallholder gardens, in addition to the coffee plants growing in the shade, various fruit species can also be found. These not only provide important minerals for the soil but also compost that can be used as fertilizer. This keeps the entire ecosystem of the region in natural balance.
